ATP Applications Using a Parallel Computing Environment

This chapter presents the application of a MATLAB‐Alternative Transients Program (ATP) environment to some advanced applications in which time‐consuming parametric and statistical studies are to be carried out. A common feature to the studies presented in the chapter is the usage of a multicore environment to reduce simulation times. The chapter presents three applications in detail: generation of 3D bifurcation diagrams for ferroresonance characterization; lightning performance analysis of overhead transmission lines; and optimum selection of parameters for hybrid high‐voltage direct current circuit breakers. A dedicated procedure for each application using a MATLAB‐ATP link and a multicore environment has been developed. The chapter includes a section for each application. Each section is organized in the same manner: a short introduction to the problem to be analysed, a summary of modelling guidelines to be considered for the study under consideration, a short description of the implemented procedure, and some illustrative examples.
