Scattering by Objects Defined by Boundary Conditions

This chapter shows examples how the boundary condition affects the scattering properties of a particle. Most of the examples are computed for a spherical scattering object. Even though the spherical geometry is simple, it is a natural and accurate model for particles appearing in several domains in nature and engineering applications. As an example of area in which knowledge of the scattering properties of particles is essential is electromagnetic modeling of materials and the computation of their effective properties. The microstructure of a medium (being often a mixture of inclusions in homogeneous background matrix) and the scattering properties of the constituents determine the macroscopic constitutive parameters.
