S2c Tunnel Establishment

The Mobile Internet Protocol version 6 (MIPv6) mechanism allows a moving host to keep its original IPv6 address, in order to maintain its current session or to be reachable on the move, mobility being managed by the host. The Dual‐Stack Mobile IP version 6 (DSMIPv6) mechanism takes into account the connection of the mobile to a public or private IPv4 network. This arrangement makes it possible to avoid unrolling the two MIPv4 and MIPv6 mechanisms when the mobile has a dual IPv4 and IPv6 stack. The establishment of the S2c tunnel constitutes one of the different phases of the mobile attachment for both trusted Wi‐Fi access and untrusted Wi‐Fi access described in this chapter. The IP Flow Mobility function allows the mobile to connect to both Long‐Term Evolution (LTE) access and Wi‐Fi access simultaneously and to establish multiple sessions from a single connection to the Packet Data Network Gateway entity.
