Cost‐Aware Design for Energy Harvesting Powered Cellular Networks

This chapter overviews the recent advances in energy cooperation and cost‐aware communication cooperation. It schematically illustrates the general energy and communication cooperation concept for cellular networks at both the energy supply layer and the communication demand layer, respectively. The chapter presents the new
joint energy and communication cooperation
to exploit both benefits. The joint energy and communication cooperation can maximally save cost by applying both the energy cooperation on the supply side and communication cooperation on the demand side. The chapter introduces the energy supply and demand models of cellular systems. The models are used to motivate various cooperation schemes. The chapter presents the essential ideas of energy, communication, and joint cooperation approaches, respectively. It introduces two joint cooperation schemes with Cost‐Aware Coordinated Multipoint (CoMP) in more detail. Finally, the chapter points out several future research directions.
