Taxonomy of Intra‐Domain Mobility Management Schemes in Wireless Mesh Network for Implementing Mobile IPTV

Now a day's IPTV is considered as the future of television. IPTV is not only limited to the static client, but its services are made available on mobile devices through mobile IPTV. The deployment of mobile IPTV is a challenging issue. There are many wireless technologies available, but out of those Wireless Mesh Network (WMN) is a very promising technology for using in mobile IPTV transmission. Some of the features of the WMN which make it an attractive option for mobile IPTV are cost effectiveness, flexibility, easy deployability, and reliability. In WMN, nodes can be classified as mesh client (MC), mesh router (MR) and gateway (GW). The mesh network can be connected to the external IPTV network or internet through GW or routers. MRs are the wireless routers to route the packets. MCs can be either mobile or stationary nodes which are using IPTV. For the implementation of mobile IPTV, seamless network connectivity for the MC is necessary. The requirement to maintain seamless network connectivity in‐spite‐of MC's random mobility behavior is a challenging issue. For addressing this issue many mobility management schemes have been developed. There are mainly two types of mobility management scheme: inter‐domain and intra‐domain. Inter‐domain mobility management scheme handles the movement of the MC when it moves from one WMN domain to another. On the other hand, intra‐domain mobility management manages the movement of the MC when it moves from the vicinity of one MR to another within the same domain. This chapter focuses on intra‐domain mobility management scheme. Intra‐domain mobility management schemes can be classified into three types: Routing based scheme, tunnel based scheme and multicast based scheme. In this chapter, a taxonomy of all the existing intra‐domain mobility management schemes has been presented. Advantage and disadvantages of different types of mobility management schemes have also been presented.
