When: Conferences, Get‐togethers, Prizes

This chapter lists the primary international conference series relevant to the terrestrial photovoltaics practitioners, the events occurring during the authors' time frame, and the related prizes and awards. Before the official series of European conferences started, there was a 1974 conference on September 25–27 in Hamburg, which some think of as European Conference Zero. It was primarily a meeting about applications of photovoltaic (PV) in space, but the last of the eight sessions was on terrestrial applications. The European PV Solar Energy Conferences (EU‐PVSEC) took place every 18 months alternating with the IEEE conference in America, and later also with the Asian conferences. A series of national conferences was held in Japan, starting in 1979, to be superseded by the PVSEC international conference series, which began in 1984.
