SQA Records and Documentation Control

The purpose of documentation control is to verify that the various stakeholders of the software process fulfill the various documentation requirements of the stakeholders of the software process. Documentation control processes, as defined by documentation control procedures, should regulate the handling of controlled documents from their creation to their disposal. Preproject documents, project life cycle documents, software quality assurance (SQA) infrastructure documents and software quality management documents are the products of SQA processes. Naturally, documentation control procedures vary among organizations according to the nature of their customers, software products, and maintenance services and their structure and size, among other characteristics if relating to the scope of the services. Software developers of large‐scale custom‐made software projects usually require quite different lists of controlled documents than do commercial off‐the‐shelf (COTS) software packages.
