Geometric Predicates and Serial Algorithms

It seems intuitively clear that the abstract quality of connectedness cannot be captured by a perceptron of finite order because of its inherently serial character: one cannot conclude that a figure is connected by any simple order-independent combination of simple tests. The same is true for the much simpler property of parity.
