Resource Allocation in CDMA‐Based Multi‐tier HetNets

This chapter presents some exemplary resource allocation algorithms for CDMA‐based multi‐tier HetNets. The chapter demonstrates how game theory and optimization theory can be employed to devise distributed algorithms with different trade‐offs between signaling overhead and efficiency. A price‐based noncooperative game theory approach is taken to design a dynamic spectrum sharing algorithm for two‐tier macro—femto networks under the closed access mode. The chapter describes how different utility and cost functions are chosen for macro and femto users to achieve some desirable design objectives. A general framework for joint BS association and power control for wireless HetNets is presented. Its convergence is established for a broad class of power control algorithms satisfying some well‐defined properties. The chapter explains how optimization theory can be employed to devise a distributed Pareto‐optimal power control algorithm for two‐tier HetNets with QoS protection for macro users in terms of minimum SINR requirements.
