Human‐Centric IoT Networks

The current Internet of Things (IoT) concept is characterized with billions and billions of devices interworking through a myriad of technologies for the delivery of smart personalized services and applications. At the center of these is the human user who drives his/her own interconnected cluster. It can be expected in the future that the number of such clusters will grow exponentially, leading to an ultra‐dense environment of interconnected devices belonging to the same or different clusters with the human user the center point for the information being sensed, gathered and processed.This Chapter proposes a new approach to dealing with the expected complexity of beyond 2050 IoT networks based on the concept of macro‐simplicity. We propose a probabilistic macrolevel model that abstracts the complexity of the underlying micro‐elements, such as the heterogeneity of the interconnected devices and wireless technologies employed, and the dynamics of the network topology and scenarios to derive a high level model that builds on simple macro‐level laws but sufficiently addresses all the micro characteristics of the complex IoT networks.
