Sustainability of the Spectrum‐Supply Chain Network

This chapter focuses on improving sustainability of the spectrum‐supply chain network through building an artificial economy. An artificial economy is built with the goal of achieving Nash equilibrium, which is also Pareto optimal. Aiming for such an equilibrium that is known as Lindahl equilibrium improves the sustainability of the spectrum‐supply chain network. The chapter also aims to harmonize the ecosystem of licensed bands owned by network providers with unlicensed bands used by cognitive radio networks. The whole purpose of this harmonization is the improved utilization of the precious natural resource: the radio spectrum. The essence of harmonization is twofold. First, the secondary user, the issue is exchanging money for buying spectrum. Second, for the network providers, the issue is to get money for allowing the use of spectrum. Finally, these two points are indeed the role of spectrum brokers.
