HD Video Remote Collaboration Application

High quality, interactive collaboration tools are becoming technically feasible, but require the careful design and implementation of capture, networking and rendering components. This chapter describes an example Remote Collaboration System (RCS) prototype developed under the auspices of the Pratt & Whitney, UTC Institute for Collaborative Engineering (PWICE) at the University of Southern California (USC). The challenges and solutions presented cover the optimization of latency, the network transmission, video transcoding, and multi‐point topology. The system prototype has been successfully tested in several real‐world applications scenarios.
