UK Framework for Access to TV White Spaces

In this chapter, we describe the framework for database‐assisted access to TV white spaces in the UK, with special emphasis on the elements of the framework most relevant to the issue of coexistence with existing users of the spectrum inside and outside the UHF TV band (470–790 MHz). These elements include the interactions between databases and white space devices, the exchanged parameters, and the various calculations that are required to determine the restrictions on the operation of the devices. Note that at the time of writing, the final regulations for access to TV white spaces in the UK are subject to on‐going public consultation.
