Early Geoengineering Governance: The Oxford Principles

Geoengineering, defined by the United Kingdom's Royal Society as “the deliberate large-scale manipulation of the planetary environment to counteract anthropogenic climate change” (Royal Society 2009, 1), is attracting increasing interest. Until an article by Paul Crutzen (2006) propelled geoengineering into the scientific mainstream, it was regarded as disreputable and dangerous even to talk about (Lawrence 2006).
