m‐Health Computing: m‐Health 2.0, Social Networks, Health Apps, Cloud, and Big Health Data

At the inception of the second decade of m‐Health, its future from the perspective of computing and Internet technologies is in flux. This chapter highlights some of the important computing developments, and their role in transforming current m‐Health systems into the next generation, the "m‐Health 2.0" era. The enthusiasm for heath Apps is driven by three powerful contributory factors: the unsustainability of current healthcare spending and costs; the accelerating growth in wireless connectivity; and the need for individualized medicine The chapter talks about the most relevant issues of m‐Health Apps, namely, their current status, clinical efficacy, effectiveness, and regulatory issues. The power of mobile computing is increasing massively, but this power has not yet been harnessed adequately for m‐Health systems. Unraveling the mobile big health data complexities can provide many potential benefits about the accurate decisions at the right time for patients and other users.
