ARM® Cortex®-M4 Other Peripherals Programming

This chapter provides general information about a few ARM® Cortex®-M4 microcontroller related peripherals and their implementations. These peripherals include the controller area network (CAN), quadrature encoder interface (QEI) and analog comparators. The discussion also includes the general-purpose input output (GPIO) ports and pins related to the CAN, QEI, and analog comparators modules used in the TM4C123GH6PM MCU system. The chapter then presents an overview of the CAN standard frame, extended frame, and CAN signal as well as error detections. Next, the chapter discusses the working principle of the increment rotary encoder and its application in a simple closed-loop control system, which is called a bang-bang control system. A more professional and traditional closed-loop control system is a so-called proportional integral differential (PID) control system. The fuzzy logic controller in this closed-loop control system belongs to a general-purpose controller that can handle both linear and nonlinear control systems.
