IPv6 Network Management Planning

This chapter discusses IPv6 network management considerations in the context to FCAPS, including corollary functions like inventory tracking, address management, configuration databases, and release and change management as well within appropriate contexts. It starts with the ?>configuration?> component, specifically inventory and address management, since these functions are critical to defining the scope for the other FCAPS functions. Next, the chapter talks about simple network management protocol (SNMP), which defines an overall information hierarchy for managed information while management information bases (MIBs) define the structure of information objects or variables for a given set of metrics. Most organizations document standardized methods and procedures (M&Ps) for provisioning, monitoring, testing, and diagnosing computing or network equipment. The testing prephase of production deployment affords a good opportunity for refining M&P documentation.
