Physical Layer Signal Processing in LTE

This chapter focuses on the LTE physical layer procedural aspects that are necessary before any data can be sent across the air interface between the eNodeB and the UE. First a detailed overview of LTE downlink synchronization signals and cell search procedure is presented. Next, various reference signals and their relations to antenna ports are discussed. Several specific procedural topics related to channel estimation, decoding of various control channels, adaptive modulation/coding, and scheduling algorithms for mobile user selection for data transmission are explained.
