Collaborative 5G Research within the EU Framework of Funded Research

This chapter provides insights into the EU framework of collaborative funded research. The European Union has a history of coordinating research programs with the aim of fostering innovation in Europe. After a brief look into this history, the following sections describe the EU bodies involved, and the way research projects are selected and operated. The current program and its importance for 5G is described and the introduction of public private partnerships is explained. Finally other frameworks for EU research are described.
