Autopilot Design Using the Parameter Space and QFT Methods

Missile systems, like the HAVE DASH II, employ bank-to-turn steering policy to achieve high maneuverability, extended range and reduced signature. As a result, the autopilot design becomes extremely challenging in view of the extent of coupling among the missile rigid body dynamics, aerodynamics, structural motions and guidance/navigation subsystems. Many classic and advanced control methods have been applied to address the bank-to-turn autopilot design [1] [2] [3]. In this paper, two robust control methods, the parameter space method and the quantitative feedback theory (QFT) method, are applied to the pitch autopilot design of the HAVE DASH II missile.
