Integration of Functional and Logic Programming Languages

The problem of integrating functional and logic programming languages is a natural and important one, and can be traced back to the late 1970's. Recently, there has been renewed interest in this problem and the purpose of the panel discussion at ILPS'95 was to summarize the current state of progress on this problem and, more importantly, to highlight key issues for future research. This contribution was the panel chairman's introduction to the topic. The contributions of the four panelists, Hassan Aїt-Kaci, Michael Harms, Uday Reddy, and Mario Rodríguez-Artalejo, follow directly in these proceedings
