Editors, "Good English," and international readers

The author question whether native English-speaking editors, faced with a letter in English that uses a clearly non-English structure, would change that structure in the process of turning the letter into "good English," or whether nonnative readers prefer that a letter in English be structured to reflect their own cultural expectations. Some of their findings seem to contradict recent research about sensitivity to cultural contexts.
