CLIA-a compact linear induction accelerator

CLIA, a ten-cell linear induction accelerator using magnetic alloy-cores, is described. The accelerator uses a cathode stalk in a vacuum to sum the input voltage from the ten input pulses. CLIA was designed to drive vacuum loads with a 750 kV, 60-100 ns square pulse at repetition rates up to 1 kHz. The ten accelerator cores are wound from a 0.6 mil tape using 3.5 mu m mylar insulation. The cores are impregnated with insulating oil. The accelerator housing is approximately 1 m long and 50 cm in diameter. A test was performed to confirm the electrical properties of the core before constructing the accelerator. The results of the tests showed good performance of the core.<
