0n a recent visit to a bookstore in Cambridge (Massachusetts), I came across Paul Nahin’s entertaining book, Dueling Idiots and Other Probability Puzzlers [I]. Nahin, a Professor Emeritus of Electrical Engineering at the University of New Hampshire, taught an undergraduate course in probability theory, among other things. His book is a compendium of twenty-one puzzles that apply probability theory to speculative situations. [Prof. Nahin may be known to some of our readers as the author of Oliver Heaviside’s biography [Zj, which was sponsored by the IEEE History Committee.]
