The role of circular polarization in bistatic radar for mitigation of interference due to rain

Based on the existing theories on scattering from a volume of rain and empirical models on rain drop size distribution and Mie solution of the problem of diffraction by a sphere, it is shown that for radar frequencies below 10 GHz one can realize 10 dB rain rejection by using circular polarization as opposed to linear polarization for bistatic angles of up to
