Space Charge Measurement of a 9mm-thick AC-XLPE Cable under Steady-state and Transient Temperature Conditions

This paper deals with a space charge measurement of cables under steady-state and load cycle temperature conditions. AC-XLPE cables with an insulation thickness of 9 mm were employed. The space charge and electric field distributions immediately after heating under load cycle conditions showed very complicated changes compared to the changes in the steady-state temperature condition. The difference in the space charge and electric distributions between the steady-state and load cycle conditions were discussed from the characteristic time constants of space charge behavior and the thermal time constant of the cable.
