Wild Horse Optimizer based Optimal allocation of DG and Capacitor Bank for Unbalanced Distribution System in Presence of Plugged-in EV

Rising concerns about environment and the call for clean energy leads to rapid integration of Electric vehicles (EVs) with the distribution system (DS). EV integration to DS brings more challenges to power system operators and adds up to more unbalancing in the already unbalanced distribution system (UDS). This paper investigates the impact of EV on UDS, specifically on the performance parameters of UDS, viz. the voltage unbalance, voltage stability as well as voltage deviation of the system. The paper proposes an algorithm to improve the performance parameters of the UDS by optimal placement and allocation of distributed generation units (DGs) and capacitor banks (CBs). To achieve this, the paper formulates a multi-objective optimization problem to improve performance of UDS by allocating DG and CB optimally in presence of plugged-in EV. A new metaheuristic algorithm namely wild horse optimization (WHO), is used for optimal DG and CB placement. The proposed method is tested on modified IEEE 123 bus UDS. A comparative analysis with other existing optimization methods is presented to project superiority of the adopted algorithm. Amount of reduction of active power loss and total voltage deviation achieved using WHO based optimization are 79.2940 % and 98.50% respectively.
