Barkhausen Noise in the Presence of Low-Frequency Ultrasonic Vibrations

This letter presents investigations of the influence of low-frequency ultrasonic vibrations on Barkhausen noise (BN). During this study, introduction of elastic waves into a tested steel sample by the resonance oscillations of a piezotransducer caused significant modification on standard BN emission.A threefold increase in the root-mean-square value of the BN noise was noticed. It resulted from the appearance of a new bundle of pulses in the spectrum of the BN due to the vibrations. The obtained results are observed for the first time and are interesting for new ways of nondestructive evaluation of ferromagnetic materials.
