The Role of Virtual Reality for Improving Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Education in Saudi Arabia

This study analyzes the application and prospects of Virtual Reality (VR) as a revolutionary educational and therapeutic instrument for persons with special needs in Saudi Arabia. As the spotlight on comprehensive education and technology availability, virtual reality presents immersive capabilities that improve learning, and social interaction, addressing particular special needs effectively. This study observed and analyzed a virtual reality prospective development in Saudi Arabia for the autism spectrum disorder (ASD) population, representing contemporary pilot study from educators and therapists’ perspectives. This study found the use of alternative augmentative communication devices can drive the development of speech development and that audio output devices can enhance language through visual, auditory and motor techniques and encourage those who have latent functional abilities to increase the development of language and communication development. Most specialists have indicated that the use of computers and electronic applications is beneficial for autistic students in terms of academic education, but they also do not encourage its use in the very early stages of rehabilitation.
