Design and Characteristics Analysis of Electromagnets Based on ANSYS Maxwell

Electromagnets serve as key control components in polishing machines, critical for automating the polishing process. Their electromagnetic characteristics directly influence the control precision of the polishing head and the uniformity of the polishing effect. This paper fields to establish a mathematical model. Using ANSYS Maxwell's static magnetic field simulation, we obtained the force-air gap characteristic curves under various parameters of the electromagnet. The simulation results demonstrate that the number of ampere-turns should consider factors such as the stroke of the electromagnet and the magnetic induction strength of the material to avoid magnetic saturation. When the shell wall thickness is less than 7 mm, the static electromagnetic force decreases as the shell thickness decreases; The electromagnetic force at 7 mm and 8 mm is almost the same. Appropriately reducing the shell thickness, without compromising the structural strength or the performance of the electromagnet, aids in achieving lightweight and high power density electromagnets. The electromagnetic force increases with the radius of the iron core, but once the required electromagnetic attraction force is satisfied, the size of the iron core should be minimized to reduce the weight of the electromagnet. These simulation results can provide reference for the structural design and operational characteristics analysis of electromagnets, significantly shortening the design and development cycle of electromagnets.
