Design Of A Wideband Monopole Antenna For Sub 6 Ghz 5G Applications

This research proposes a unique Wide Band (WB) monopole Antenna to work within a frequency range of 2.2 – more than 5 GHz to work for 5G new radio (NR) n77/n78/n79 and 5 GHz WLAN. A Roger RT5880 substrate with a dielectric constant of 2.2, a thickness of 1.57 mm is used to build an antenna element of $38.5 \times 49.5$ mm$^{2}$. The monopole antenna structure consists of a circular ring with seven smaller circular rings on its surface, and eight stubs of 0.15 mm width and angled 45 degrees around a tiny circle in the middle of the main ring to increase its bandwidth. By using a notch carved in the partial ground to mitigate excess capacitive reactance, the bandwidth of the monopole antenna is upgraded. Gain range provided by the radiating element is 2.2 dBi to 4.5 dBi. The simulated and experimental findings show excellent agreement.
