A High-Efficiency and Compact Power Amplifier With Harmonic Suppression

Using the 10W GaN HEMT CGH40010F from CREE, a high-efficiency and compact power amplifier (P A) is designed for 5G application. A novel output matching network (OMN) which absorb a part of the bias circuit and suppress the harmonics is designed for simplified and compact layout and high-efficiency performance. The designed PA has compact size of 45 mm×20 mm. Simulation results show that a power added efficiency (PAE) ranges from 57.32% to 60.61% at 2-dB compression and the saturated output power ranges from 40.59 to 40.92 dBm are obtained within the frequency band 3.3-3.7 GHz.
