Design of High Performance Adders Using Quantum Dot Cellular Automata (QCA)

The Quantum-dot Cellular Automata (QCA) is an advancing Nano electronic technology that promises to revolutionize the field of digital computing. QCA offers a fundamentally different approach to computing by exploiting the principles of quantum mechanics at the nanoscale level. This technology replaces traditional transistor-based circuits with small groups of quantum dots that can represent binary information using the spin of electrons. This paper provides an overview of the key concepts and principles of QCA, highlighting its potential advantages over conventional CMOS technology. This work proposes the ripple carry adder and carry lookahead adder designs using QCA and compare its performance with conventional CMOS designs. Finally, it is proved that QCA based adders have low power dissipation and high speed with respect to CMOS designs.
