Micro X-ray diffraction studies of battery material interfaces

Summary form only given as follows. Detailed study of surfaces and interfaces over small distances is critical to understanding the behavior of batteries and other power sources. This paper presents information on micro X-ray diffraction as a means of identifying compounds in areas as small as 50 microns. A technique for compound mapping of active material/electrode interfaces is given and its utility for in situ phase identification is shown. Application of the technique to a broader range of power sources materials is discussed.
