Priority Based Optimal Load Shedding in a Power System Network under Contingency Conditions

The ever-increasing load demand is leading to the stressful operation of the power system. Furthermore, the outage of a generator or transmission line during congestion adversely affects the power system stability and security. In such a scenario, to maintain stability and prevent further outage of crucial equipment, it is inevitable for the power system operator to opt for load shedding. In this paper, a priority-based optimal load shedding (OLS) mechanism is proposed under contingency conditions. The main objective is to minimize the total cost of load shedding subjected to the system's operational and security constraints. The OLS problem is solved on a modified IEEE 14 bus test system using GAMS under different contingency conditions, considering load priorities.
