Single-Chip Beam Scanner LiDAR Module for 20-m Imaging

We have implemented a light-detection and ranging (LiDAR) system using a single-chip solid-state beam scanner and demonstrated 20-m ranging and imaging operation. The beam scanner is integrated with a 32-channel optical phased array (OPA), 37 optical amplifiers, and a tunable laser diode, and everything fits on an
$8.7\times 3.0-\text{mm}^{2}$
single chip fabricated using III-V-on-silicon processes. In addition, we have implemented the system in a compact module form and verified robust performance in the presence of 10,000-lux ambient light to demonstrate the outdoor usability and commercial viability.
