Terahertz Phase Shifting Based on Hole-Rod Array VIA Photocontrol Vanadium Dioxide

Phase manipulating of Terahertz waves can be used for PSK communications, imaging and radar systems. So, the phase control of THz wave has a potential prospect in application. The combination of metamaterials and semiconductors gives us an inspiration for THz phase modulation[1]. It allows that phase shifting can be achieved at different external voltages. Recently, more and more materials have been used in THz phase modulation, such as HEMT, graphene, and vanadium dioxide. But it's still a big problem which can't obtain a large phase shifting with low insertion loss.
