Towards the RES Development: Multi-Criteria Assessment of Energy Storage Devices

This paper presents the MCDM approach for recommending the most advantageous energy storage variant among the many available alternatives. Interest in energy storage is growing rapidly with the increasing popularity of photovoltaic systems. The motivation is that the further development of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) requires an efficient way of storing the produced energy. Energy storage allows accumulating the excess energy generated by a PV system and later recovering it without losses. Due to the many different technical parameters of energy storage devices, the MCDM approach is preferable because it enables reliable evaluation considering many criteria, even in the lack of expert knowledge about these devices. The authors included COMET, MOORA, TOPSIS, and PROMETHEE II in the proposed MCDM approach. A comparative analysis of the final rankings was then performed using two ranking correlation coefficients. The high convergence of the obtained results confirms the reliability and usefulness of the selected MCDM methods for recommending energy storage considering chosen criteria in e-commerce systems.
