A Compact 76-81 GHz Transceiver Front-End for Automotive Radar in 40-nm CMOS

A compact frequency-modulated continuous-wave (FMCW) transceiver front-end for automotive radar application operating at 76-81 GHz is presented. The LO input frequency is multiplied by the push-push doubler twice to produce the millimeter-wave (mm-Wave) signal for mixing and transmitting. Two solutions about power division network of the low-noise amplifier (LNA) are discussed. The receiving signals which have been divided into two paths are converted into intermediate frequency (IF) by high-linearity passive mixers. Power amplifier (PA) with power matching optimization achieves sufficient output power and high efficiency. Fabricated in 40-nm CMOS, the transceiver front-end has achieved 10.76 dBm transmitting output power and 10.9 dB maximum receiving conversion gain at 77 GHz.
