Corrosion Behaviour of High and Low Strength Steel Bars in Pore Solutions

Steels have been used in structural applications for a long time due to its good mechanical properties. Recently many designers recommended high strength steel bars to reduce corrosion. In this paper attempts have been made to analyze the corrosion behavior of two different grade reinforcement steel bars in cement pore solutions with various percentages of NaCl such as 0%, 1.5%, 2.5% and 3.5%. In order to see the corrosion behaviors of steels in marine environment, 3.5% NaCl was mainly used. Experimental results revealed that high strength Thermo Mechanically Treated (TMT) steel bars show better corrosion resistance than low strength steel bars.
