Facilitating the Development of Self-Driving Cars with Open-source Projects

The proliferation of self-driving cars will unleash the freedom of mobility. Traditional car manufacturers and global SW platform firms are cooperating to develop better self-driving solutions. Meanwhile, several open-source projects that provide SW solutions to self-driving cars have been focused on and will lower the barrier of developing use cases and applications for self-driving cars. In this paper, we examine three open-source projects for self-driving cars and discuss how to facilitate self-driving cars with open-source projects. The proposed points were developing common standards to access vehicle information, cooperation among different open-source projects and commercial software, and novel use cases for self-driving cars.
