System design technique in the railway radio communication using microwave and millimeter-wave

In most Japanese railway wireless communications between trains and ground facilities, the 300 MHz or 400 MHz band are utilized as carrier frequencies. However the frequency bandwidth is narrow to satisfy various requirements. Therefore I have proposed a large-capacity communication system using the upper microwave band. In this paper, I mention the system design technique in railway communications using microwaves and millimeter-waves. Firstly, I show the theoretical simulation techniques for the propagation characteristics. Next I mention measurements of 20.0 GHz; and 51.1 GHz propagation characteristics. Further I study selection combining space diversity for railways. Finally, through these examinations, I show flowcharts of radio circuit designs along the railway tracks.
