Shallow Water Bathymetry Extraction in Small Island of Wakatobi, Indonesia

Bathymetry data in the Indonesia Geospatial Information Agency is obtained through measurements with acoustic methods: multi-beam and single beam echo-sounding. The use of both methods is expensive in terms of cost and time. Moreover, the ability of vessels to measure depth in shallow water is also limited, especially for the area with coral reefs. This condition inhibits the supply of bathymetry data, especially in shallow waters. The purpose of this study is to develop bathymetry modelling using multispectral imagery to fill the gap of bathymetry data in shallow water. In this research, the assessment is focused on an empirical method, Support Vector Machine (SVM). Sentinel 2A is used to obtained bathymetry map of the study area. We assess the influence of sun glint correction to the results and estimate the accuracy of the model. The accuracy is assessed by using single beam and multi beam echo sounding data collected in the field.
