Organizational learning and co-opetition

Summary form only given, as follows. Technology firms are increasingly being faced with the dilemma of whether to fight or join forces with their enemy. They are being confronted with situations that they are not able to resolve, given their existing technology, skills, market share, and/or knowledge. If they collaborate with another firm that has these resources, both firms can potentially benefit, resulting in a win-win situation. However, many of the firms most likely to have these resources are also their competitors. If they choose not to collaborate, their competitor could potentially resolve the problem or seize the opportunity without them, resulting in a zero-sum,game (one side wins, the other side loses). Or, both firms could lose because neither had the necessary resources.
