Techno-Economic Analysis of Hybrid PV/Wind/Fuel-Cell System for EVCS

Changes are taking place in the global energy sector, primarily to attain renewable transport technology. To minimize carbon gases, petrol, electricity, and hydrogen are also the most promising transport technologies. In this study, a hybrid power system for an electric vehicle charging station (EVCS) is proposed, which is consists of a photovoltaic (PV) panel, a wind turbine (WT), and a Fuel Cell (FC). The key aim is to design a power grid with high percentages of clean energy, reduced greenhouse gas emissions, and low energy prices. Therefore, switching from a grid-tied fossil fuel power system to a renewable and cleaner power system is more appealing. Nevertheless, nowadays the capital cost of system components of the hydrogen technology still is higher than others. The results of this paper recommend that PV/FC/Battery based system has economic benefits in off-grid energy systems. To simulate the ideal size of device components and to define cost-effective configurations based on Riyadh City, Saudi Arabia, the Hybrid Optimization Model for Multiple Energy Resources (HOMER) program is used.
