Massflow Sensor for Tobacco Sensing

A mass flow meter for tobacco measurement has been developed with a circular waveguide resonator. The design of a sensor that allows a contactless detection of the mass flow rate is mandatory for numerous applications in food and tobacco industry. The application of a permittivity sensor for the detection of tobacco for process monitoring applications is investigated in this paper. The spatial filtering velocimetry is applied to measure the average velocity of the conveyed tobacco. The simultaneous detection of the volumetric concentration and velocity with a single sensor only defines a true mass flow meter.
