Optimization of a periodic inspection strategy to reduce the impact caused by continued degradation on the environment

in this article, a maintenance inspection strategy is proposed for a production system to reduce the impact caused by its continued degradation on the environment. Two types of maintenance action are considered: corrective and preventive. Preventive maintenance action is performed based on monitoring the level of degradation of the system, while corrective maintenance action is performed in the event of a system failure. The goal is to optimize inspection times in order to minimize the average total cost calculated in relation to the inspection time cycle. This cost is generated by the costs of maintenance actions (corrective and preventive) and inspection as well as the cost of penalties due to environmental degradation. to calculate the inspection dates, a mathematical model of the average total cost is developed for a periodic inspection strategy. Based on the Fminsearch algorithm, a numerical procedure is developed to calculate the optimal inspection dates. Numerical examples are given to illustrate the proposed approach.
