IEEE Fellow Criteria Emphasize Practical Contributions

In 1987 the IEEE modified the evaluation criteria to attempt to make the Fellow grade more accessable for practical technical contributions. In particular, consideration is now to be given to the development of products, systems, facilities, services and their applications, as well as significant advances in manufacturing processes, quality, reliability, manufacturability, or cost effectiveness.
