Some applications of variable frequency currents

At the present moment it may, with justice, be stated that, after sixty years of effort, electrical engineers have failed to produce a practicable reciprocating motion by means of the direct application of electric currents. In South Africa, reciprocating motion is a matter of very great interest to the Mining Industry. It is associated on the surface with coarse crushing, and underground with drilling.
