The development of the lightning discharge

Electrical engineers concerned with the transmission of power over long distances have devoted much research of recent years to the problem of minimising the damage and interruptions of service caused by the lightning discharge. Devices have been developed for the study of lightning surges along transmission lines, self-recording instruments are being used for statistical investigations on the characteristics of the surge and improved forms of lightning arrestor are being tried.
